It’s been over 10 years since Malia and Sasha Obama came into the spotlight when their dad, Barack Obama, became President of the United States. And, two years after their father’s presidency, we’ve started to see more and more of these gorgeous young women going about their lives, showing us that mum, Michelle Obama's sense of style really has rubbed off. It was always going to be the case, wasn’t it?
Take casual street chic, for instance. Sasha and Malia seem to have the formula down to a T when they were spotted shopping at a market in Avignon, France, yesterday, while on a family holiday in France.
20-year-old Harvard student Malia wore a black denim jacket over a cropped black embroidered cardigan and black high-waisted shorts, topped off with a pair of Doc Martens.
Meanwhile, Sasha, 18, who has just graduated from high school and set to start at the University of Michigan in the autumn, stepped out in a cool oversized green jacket layered over a cropped white tee and light-wash jeans, finished with a pair of Nike Air Force 1 high-tops. The teen topped it all off with a 90s-style leopard-print bucket hat. So far, so Gen-Z.
Later in the day, the family went on a Father’s Day jaunt with their rents to the Michelin-starred La Mirande restaurant in Avignon. The girls didn’t disappoint us in the style stakes again, Malia working a white backless jumpsuit to perfection (those, long, long legs were made for jumpsuits) and red bucket bag, while Sasha donned a yellow snake-skin printed thigh-high split dress from Reformation (it’s £101 and still available to buy if you fancy it) worn with a pair of trainers.
The former first family arrived in Avignon in the south of France for a week's holiday that began on Friday, just days after Sasha's graduation from high school.
We’re looking forward to seeing what other effortless summery essentials the Obama girls have packed for their family vacay.
