Admittedly, we're off to a good start. As far as hair inspiration goes, 2019 has already served up curtain fringes, collarbone bobs and lived-in ponytails. Retro hair is having a comeback, bobs are shorter and blunter than ever, and accessories have had an overhaul.
The celebs have been at it, too, with the awards season earlier this year dishing up a smorgasbord of hair inspiration. Ashley Graham's accessory-sprinkled updo and Hailey Bieber's 90s pony took the Met Gala by storm, while Sara Sampaio's androgynous look and Bella Hadid's high bun at Cannes Film Festival were a talking point.
Now Fashion Month is in full swing we've already seen pretty plaits (courtesy of Erdem and Simone Rocha), sleek ponytails (at Christopher Kane) and chic chignons (at Victoria Beckham). The AW19 runways too, saw a plethora of hair inspiration served up from the primped ponytails (fancied-up with the addition of silk and velvet ribbons at Oscar De La Renta) to the half up-half down do's studded with pretty brooches at Chanel.
We've rounded up the best braids, messy buns and slinky ponytails to get you going, but, if you're after something faff-free and pretty much foolproof, accessories are the way to go. For what can salvage a 'meh' hair scenario in mere seconds? A pretty pearly grip clipped into a deep side-part, that's what. Or spice up your average plait by braiding a hair scarf through it. If you're a dab hand with your hands, get going with the more complicated fishtail braids below and, if all else fails, a messy bun and scrunchy combo looks effortless, but exceedingly chic.
