It’s been a while since we last saw Cheryl properly. Yes, there was her turn on the Paris runway for L’Oréal last month, those teaser selfies on Snapchat and her upcoming appearance on The X Factor to look forward to, but since having baby Bear, Cheryl’s definitely been keeping out of the limelight. Until now. Yep, Cheryl is back, and wiser, more beautiful and lovelier than ever (if that’s even possible). And if just seeing her in the flesh isn’t enough (watch the full video interview below), she’s also collaborating with L’Oréal Paris to create three limited-edition lip kits. Cheryl, you’re spoiling us.
GLAMOUR's Beauty Director Alex Steinherr met with Cheryl on her first day back at work after her pregnancy – and it’s no less than a 12-hour day, this woman doesn’t do things by halves. “It feels so strange not to have the baby around,” she says. “It feels really weird, I can’t wait to get home just to cuddle him.” It’s a major upheaval from her past working life: “Looking back now I can see my schedule was insane, but at the time I was just on the train and I was going, going, going. I didn’t really see that it was hectic.”
But now with the baby (and a certain Mr Liam Payne) at home, her schedule has changed. Cheryl admits her priorities have shifted: “I don’t feel any pressure at all [coming back]. It’s like my whole world has been turned upside down. It’s not the be all and end all of my world: he is.”
And it’s not just her schedule that has had to alter – the singer’s beauty regime has taken a hit, too. “For the first three months, I didn’t put a single thing except moisturiser or oil on my skin. I didn’t have time; you don’t have time. You are taking care of a baby 24/7,” says Cheryl. “It’s not practical either. What are you going to do? Kiss and cuddle him full of make-up? It doesn’t make sense.”[ id="BaUgRMWhWB4"]
As you can probably see from the video, Cheryl looks absolutely radiant. She puts it down to “contentment and happiness”, and we think this new way of life is definitely working for her. Any other tips she can share? “I put Bio-Oil or coconut oil in the bath because it cuts out time – you’re moisturised when you get out and your skin looks and feels lovely.” Words of advice straight from the woman herself – you’re welcome.
When it comes to beauty, Cheryl’s switching up her look, too. “I would be happy to waltz around in mascara and my new lipstick,” she says. “But I don’t know yet; I think I will be a bit more experimental and say what I like now and what I don’t like. Everything has changed since I’ve been gone.” Cheryl’s always been known for her versatile make-up; she really can work any look, whether it’s a two-tone lip on the Paris runway, her classic smoky eye or the fresher, natural look she’s working when we meet her. So really, who better to design a lipstick line?
The Paint by Cheryl lip kits each contain a lip liner and a liquid lipstick in a matte finish, to keep the look “a bit more modern”. The limited-edition kits come in three shades: Peach, Greige and Burgundy (Cheryl’s favourite: “When I made it, I was into that look: dark lips, stripped-back eye.”) And the star has been hands-on with the collection from the very beginning: “I went into the lab, mixed colours, saw how they made eyeshadows and mascaras – I could have been there all day with the different departments.”
These lip kits are especially important to Cheryl because they affect a cause very close to her heart: £1 from every kit sold will go straight to Cheryl’s Trust, her charity supporting young people in the North East of England. “My trust is now opening a centre in Newcastle,” she says. “I want to be able to help disadvantaged youths up there that are struggling, with self-esteem issues and not being able to get on the next ladder for work. There’s so many benefits to the centre; it’s going to be opening later this year. That’s a project I’ve had going for five years now.”
So she’s a bona-fide popstar, a working mother, the face of L’Oréal Paris, philanthropist and now make-up designer. Is there anything this woman can’t do? Well, just one, small thing. Ask her to choose her favourite Kardashian beauty look and she’s stumped: “They are all beautiful in their own way. They’ve all got something going on, they are a beautiful family.” And so are you, Cheryl. It’s so good to have you back.
Paint by Cheryl, £9.99, with £1 from each sale going to Cheryl’s Trust, L’Oréal Paris.
