Can you believe it’s been 25 years since Friends first aired on our screens? While the beloved show may have been around longer than you have, there’s no denying the enormous impact the TV series continues to have on our lives.
From Rachel’s iconic wardrobe that we’re still attempting to replicate today, to Chandler’s unforgettable one liners that we belt out on the daily, our obsession with Friends shows no signs of waning - and it looks like the same can be said for the rest of the nation, given that Netflix paid an estimated $100 million to continue streaming the show for another year due to its sheer popularity.
As we gear up for the sitcom’s milestone 25th anniversary on 22nd September, here are all the ways you can celebrate. And yes, re-watching every season from start to finish for the 100th time is perfectly acceptable, if not encouraged.
Sit on the Central Perk sofa
Grab a cup of coffee and prepare to get the Instagram shot of dreams as the actual sofa from Central Perk tours the UK for three days this month. With appearances in Edinburgh, Cardiff and London, Friends fanatics will be able to nestle into the world’s most famous sofa free of charge.
Book in for a night at the theatre
Friendsical, the tribute musical to one of the most popular sitcoms, is going on tour! After enjoying huge success at the Edinburgh Fringe festival, the characters of Ross, Rachel, Joey, Monica, Chandler and Phoebe are all set to take to the stage once again. Written and directed by Miranda Larson, Friensical centres around Ross and Rachel who reconnect after his wife leaves him for another woman. To top it off, the musical will feature original songs from the series. *Buys tickets immediately*.
Head to Friendsfest
A unique festival to mark the 25th anniversary of Friends lands in Kennington Park from 19th September. Friendsfest, hosted by Comedy Central, will allow attendees to visit famous sets from the series, recreate the opening credits and enjoy a coffee in a makeshift Central Perk (or a cocktail if that’s more your vibe). You’ll also be able to nail the perfect selfie as you dress up in the most iconic outfits from the show. It’s a dream day out for the hardcore fans amongst us.
Host girls night
If staying in is your idea of the perfect night, why not get the girls over, stock up on popcorn and binge-watch the entire show from scratch? Sleep is for the weak, right?
