The hopes of eco-conscious travel is finally looking up.

It’s no secret that our planet is in crisis. Climate change anxiety is a worrying mental health endemic plaguing Gen-Z and flying around the world via plane is one of the worst things we can do for the planet.

The companies we fly with and those in able positions to make more eco-conscious decisions are now working towards becoming more aware with the aid of HRH Prince Harry’s latest eco-travel initiative, Travalyst.

Launching the project this week in Amsterdam, the Duke spoke about his motivation behind the initiative. “I want to start with a little bit of background as to specifically why I’m here today, because as you may know, I am not a tourism or business expert, but through my travels I have observed the unique relationship between community and environment, and have noticed something alarming," he said.

The Duke of Sussex is partnering with travel giants, booking.com, Skyscanner, Trip Advisor, Visa and C Trip to reduce their global environmental impact when we travel. Comprised of the two words 'travel' and 'catalyst', Travalyst was born to make travel more sustainable, to help protect destinations and benefit communities long into the future and enable consumers to make more environmentally friendly choices whilst travelling.

“Travalyst is a first of its kind coalition, it will help strengthen communities and ecosystems for generations to come," added Harry.

The Duke’s initiative comes after the backlash he has received for using private jets for his family. Out of the 10 trips the Duke and Duchess of Sussex took last year, it’s become common knowledge that 5 were private flights. With the desire to balance out his own environmental impact as well as the impact from commercial flights, Travalyst aims to even out the scale.
