Just like us, lip gloss has grown up. So, if they make you think of bootcut jeans, slide-up Sony Ericsson's and Gretchen Wieners' sticky Juicy Tube, think again.
Over the last few years, considered, high-tech formulas have brought the beauty throwback up to date, with some of our favourite beauty brands releasing modern day incarnations of the makeup bag staple – Charlotte Tilbury, Hourglass, Huda and Pat McGrath have all thrown their lipglosses in the ring.
They're versatile too, with formulas running the gamut from barely there and delicate (with silky, plush options offering up a gossamer gloss to give lips a healthy sheen), to bold and unexpected (with holographic formulas in violets and brights providing an outspoken alternative). Textures too, have crucially, been given a makeover and in place of a gluey varnish, nourishing, creamy and balm-like finishes have been switched in.
We've rounded up the best lip glosses on shelves right now, complete with a stickiness rating from 0 (not syrupy in the least) to 5 (full on PVA). You are most welcome.
