It dawned on me, while standing behind the owner of one rather swishy ponytail while exiting the Jubilee line at Bond Street, that I never really get excited by shampoo. If someone approaches with a cracking red lip, I’ll swoop straight in for the shade. Ditto a fresh blusher or an enticing perfume. You name it, I want details. Shampoo? Not so much.
This woman, though, she was doing something right. She’d made it through quite possibly the hottest summer Britain’s ever endured and into blustery autumn, with her hair perfectly, glossily in tact. No dried-out strands, no peeling split ends, no frazzled flyaways. Just ultra silky, beautiful-looking hair. Well done that woman. So, of course, I tapped her on the shoulder, congratulated her on a smashing head of hair and asked her what she’d been using, because the world deserves to know. Intrigued? It was the Momo shampoo from Davines – an Italian hair care brand which, incidentally, started off as salon only. Makes sense.
A carefully chosen conditioner is exactly the salvation post-summer hair needs
Now that we’re heading into winter, it’s more important than ever to pick a shampoo (and conditioner) that works to undo the damage done by the elements (plunging temperatures, lashing wind, pollution, central heating etc) all of which can leave our hair coarse and dehydrated. In particular, it’s worth looking out for extra nourishing ingredients that are rich in keratin (the protein behind healthy hair) like argan oil and almond oil as well as moisturising avocado oil and coconut milk.
